Who Am I?
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Third Grade! My name is Mrs. Cynthia Naa Afadua Annorh-Walker. I was born in Accra, Ghana, West Africa and came to Chicago in August of 1977. I love to travel, be out in nature, and spend time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading, teaching, exercising and cooking.
I received my bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and my master’s from DePaul University.
I will be your child’s Third Grade teacher. I am delighted to have your child in my class this 2020-2021 School Year. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too! I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations.
In Third Grade there will be three to four assignments each day of the week (Monday through Thursday). Homework is broken down in the core subject areas (Mathematics and Language Arts). Reading is of the upmost importance seven days a week. The requirement for Reading is a minimum of 15 minutes per day outside of school. Students may read to themselves, aloud to a family member or to a friend. Reading materials should be selected by the student whenever possible.
In addition, I will be assigning projects in various subjects throughout the school year. Projects are to be completed at home. Your help and support will not only make your child more successful in school this year, but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.
Our Third Grade classroom will focus on positive behaviors with lots of positive reinforcement. I will contact you immediately if there are serious concerns about behavior, or academic progress. You are also encouraged to send me written notes\email.
Students are encouraged to think about their choices and to be responsible for them. Examples of logical consequences for students who are disruptive to the learning environment includes: verbal warning, time away from the group, parent contact, and office referral.
Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goal this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns during the school year at [email protected].
Kind Regard,
Mrs. Annorh-Walker
